Prepping for Game of Thrones: Throwback to our GOT Inspired Styled Shoot

We are T-minus 6 days away from the release of Game of Thrones Season 8 and I just. can’t. stand. it!

If you have been following me on IG then you probably saw my ambitious goal to read all the Game of Thrones books before the season 8 premiere on April 14, 2019. Well, I am still on book one, but Holy Mother of Dragons, it is GOOOD! But it did have me reminiscing over a styled shoot I helped out with last year that had #allthethings Game of Thrones!

Are you a lover of all things Westeros? Then you need to see all the beautiful things that our amazing team put together last year!

behind the print

So unlike the other designs I have shown you in the past, this stationery design is the masterpiece of Louise over at The Autumn Rabbit, and I did the foil printing to bring this (dire-wolf) puppy to life!

So now you are probably wondering how this all came to pass…

…well it all started with Misty, Owner of Misty C. Photography based in Washington State. She had been hunting and hunting for a printer who could bring Louise’s Design to life (and that wouldn’t involve all the gold in the 7 isles!) Once we found each other…well…you can check out the results for yourself!

the inspiration

Here are some of my absolute favorite images from the shoot! For a more detailed behind the scenes look at this one-of-a-kind wedding inspiration, you can read Misty’s blog post about this-one-of-a-kind wedding inspiration here.

Ten Questions to Ask Your Stationery Designer Answered

Kwanzaa Harvest: A Celebration of African Heritage

We are gonna do a little celebration dance here at Beauty Bright Design and you are invited to dance along! Back in October, I had the opportunity to work with some very talented creative entrepreneurs on a Kwanzaa inspired styled wedding shoot. From rustic barns, beautiful African fabrics and gorgeous florals to gold foiled stationery, cowrie shell fondant details and tablescapes to die for, this make-believe wedding was a beautiful way to honor a rich and vibrant African Culture.

African Heritage: the inspiration

I actually happened to fall into this styled shoot by accident (and I am so glad I did!) I was browsing through honeybook when I saw Gina’s post looking for a designer to create an “epic” stationery suite for a styled wedding shoot she was planning. If you know me, then you know I saw the word epic and reached out right away!

Woman Setting Up Candles for Kwanzaa

When I first chatted with Gina about her vision, she was extremely excited to celebrate African Heritage by incorporating the symbols and principals of Kwanzaa. Her enthusiasm had me hooked and my brain was racing with stationery ideas before we even got through all the details!

At the end of our chat, we knew three things about what she was envisioning for the stationery suite: it needed to make a statement, it needed to have a stationery box and it needed to incorporate elements of the gorgeous fabric used as the sash on the Bride’s dress.

The colors that Gina selected were gorgeous, warm and vibrant.

But these colors also presented of a bit of a challenge – too much purple, green and yellow and the suite would be throwing Mardi Gras Beads from a parade float on Bourbon Street while eating King Cake! I spent a lot of time tweaking the paper and envelope colors to find a perfect balance. After talking through some additional details about other elements in the shoot, Gina and I decided on adding an organic element, a light rsvp envelope and round menu card made from recycled materials.

The venue for the shoot was Park Winters, a beautiful backdrop of California countryside and gorgeous buildings around the property like the Victorian Home shown below.

White Victorian Home with Greenery

I wanted the stationery to meld with the scenery and in no way take away from it’s natural beauty. As you see below, I opted to use a single white lowercase serif font for the main text. To help contrast the softness of the white, I opted for a line of all caps gold serif font. The white and gold pop right off the metallic colored paper! With such rich colors for the cards and the box, I opted to use a clear invitation as shown below.

now let’s talk about this stationery box.

This was one place I wanted to give a little umpff! Gina had said she wanted it to make a statement, and I couldn’t think of a bigger statement than a gold velvet lining. In my original design I had opted for a black invitation box, but boy am I glad we changed that! I absolutely love how the green contrasted the gold velvet and the blue wrap. Wowza!
